DDoS Attacks, Zombie, Botnet -Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS is an attack using malcode by hackers to attack legitimate users  to make their  resources like websites, networks, e-mail, voicemail irresponsive. This is done by a cyber criminal by using a large group of computing devices controlled remotely to dispatch traffic floods on the target user. The targeted user becomes annoyed due to uncontrollable traffic and finds himself unable to respond even legitimate mails or requests. The excessively increased traffic causes the system overloaded and thus the system stops responding causing long delays or outages. Such attacks cause considerable damages to the target. The DDoS attacks come from a large number of computers controlled by the hacker at a time. As they come from a large number of computers at once hence called the distributed attacks. First the hacker installs a Trojan in a large number of computers without the user’s knowledge and all such Trojan infected computers become active at once as per the hacker’s command.

What is a Zombie

The Trojan/Virus infected computers follow the instructions of the hacker given remotely and called the Zombies.

What is a Botnet

The Zombies are  very large in numbers and work as a network therefore it is called the Botnet(Robot network)

You might not notice or sometimes notice that your computer is slow or not as fast as usual. This may be due to your computer may be busy participating one or more DDoS attacks in one side and you are using it simultaneously. Thus your computer may also be working as a Zombie and participating the DDos attack without your knowledge and may be part of a Botnet.

Microsuft has introduced a new feature PSR(Problem Steps Recorder) in the windows version 7 and afterwards. You can use Problem Steps Recorder to automatically capture the steps you take on a computer, including a text description of where you clicked and a picture of the screen during each click (called a screen shot) and can save them to a file that. This file may be sent to a technical expert or someone else capable of helping you to solve the computer problem. Anything you type will not be recorded while recording, but the comment feature may be used to write text and highlight where the problem is occurring. You can also add comments to the file and highlight problems. Option of setting is also available.

How to record

1. Open the “Run”  Command and write ‘psr’ and click “OK”

2. The recorder commands will appear on your screen.

3. Click Start Record. On your computer, go through the steps on your computer to reproduce the problem. You can pause the recording at any time, and resume it later.

4. Click Stop Record when you want to stop recording.

5. Type a File Name in the Save As dialog box, and then click Save (The file will be saved with ‘.zip’ extension).

6. To view the  record steps of the file you just recorded, open the .zip file and then double-click the file. The file will open in your default browser.

 How to send the file on Email to an Expert/Support person

After saving the .zip file, click the help down arrow and click Send to E‑mail recipient. This will open an e‑mail
message in your default e‑mail program with the last recorded file automatically attached to it.

Backups of your blogs is an essential task. In this hitch era no body knows, when some unknown  hacker will attack and who will be the victim. The hackers may delete your posts and even use them in their own name. A good post needs hours of work and It is very irritating if you loss a number of posts and your hours and months of work is washed out without your mistake. In my view a mistake on your part certainly there because you did not take a backup of your blog besides Google has provided this facility. The only solution is to backup your blog at frequent intervals. Keeping copies of all posts and permalink is  a good  practice but taking backups at times is best. Backups are saved on your hard drive in .xml form and can be restored later easily. The automatic file name will be “blog 12-07-203.xml”. These .xml files can also be restored on a wordpress blog also. To backup a blog is a task to be completed in multi parts like backup of posts, Photos and design etc.

How to backup a blog
1.    Sign in to your blog and go to setting
2.    Click other in the bottom left corner, the  following screen will appear -


3.    Now click “export blog”, the following image screen  will appear -


4.    Now click ”Download Blog”, the following image will appear -


5.    Now click save and the backup of your blog posts is saved on your hard drive and it is secure.

How to backup Blog Images

Backup Blog Images is very very easy. Make sure that you are logged in to your blogger account and go to Picasa Web Albums. Some times you may be prompted  your blogger password. Select the service “Picasa Web Albums” and create archive and When the archive is created, click download.

How to backup Blog Templates
1.    Make sure that you are logged in to your blogger account.
2.    Go to setting and then click Template,  the  following screen will appear -

3.    Click on Backup/Restore”, the  following screen will appear -

4.    Click “Download Full Template”, the  following screen will appear (templ2)

5.    Click save.
That is all and your template is saved on your Hard Drive and you can restore it at any time.
